Giving up is easy. Whether it is something as small as cooking a difficult recipe or a workout program, or something as big as a marriage or a job, quitting is easy. As a kid growing up my late father used to say, “Can’t Never Could” as a response to me or anyone else saying the forbidden word “can’t” around him. It was his way of saying, “Never Give Up”, or in biblical terms, “Run the Race”. Continue reading “Run the Race – Finish the Race”
Are you a full time Christian or just part-time? Tough question and maybe a bit confusing for some. Let’s make it a little more clear. Sunday is a time for worship, a day when Christians get together as a church family, fellowship together, pray together, listen to the word of God, sing, and genuinely praise God. But as Christians, should we not do this every day of the week? There are many verses in the Bible that instruct us, as Christians, to pray continually for example, but if we leave our Christianity at church on Sunday, are we really fulfilling God’s ultimate purpose for our lives? Continue reading “Full Time or Part Time Christian?”
A question I often ask college students is this: What is success in life? This question often opens up a discussion that provides different answers from financial stability to a whole happy family life and everything in between. But what is success in life through the eyes of God, and how do we attain it? Can we attain it? These are important questions we all must consider when determining our direction, not only here in this life, but perhaps more importantly for our eternal life after our death. Continue reading “What is Success in Life?”
All too often we hear stories of supposed “Christians” who have “fallen from the faith” and have been caught in scandals that are completely contradictory to the Bible itself. These stories propagate from the famous television pastors who are broadcast worldwide all the way down to our very own husbands, wives and even children.
For the non-Christians and especially for those on the edge of becoming a Christian, this is just one more reason they have that keeps them from moving forward. It leaves them with the obvious question, Why are Christians so hypocritical? They preach one thing and then the next thing we know, they’re getting caught doing the very things they’ve been preaching against!! Why are Christians so judgmental against the very things they get caught doing?
There is actually a very good reason for this that I believe is all too often under-preached by pastors throughout Christianity. Don’t get me wrong, the question is valid and in no way am I justifying the wrongs of these individuals. But I do think it is important that we all learn from the mistakes of other as Christians and non-Christians. Continue reading “Why are Christians so Hypocritical? When Christians Let their Guard Down.”
Perhaps one of the most important characteristics God placed within us as humans is fear. That’s right, good old-fashioned fear, being “scared” of something. Fear comes in many different forms and levels, but fear can be as much a good thing as it is a bad thing.
Fear and Christianity go hand in hand. Even with respect to the Bible and Christianity, fear has a good side and an ugly side. I’m sure while reading this you may be asking, “how in the world can fear be a good thing”. Keep reading and I’ll explain. Continue reading “Fear and Christianity – The Good and Bad”
Have you ever made a decision, big or small, that you were unsure about only to find later it was the wrong decision? Maybe it was the wrong choice for dinner, the wrong shirt to wear, the wrong meeting to miss, or maybe even the wrong turn to make on the way home. Maybe it was something bigger, something that you knew was wrong, but you did it anyway.
Why do people make bad decisions? We see it everywhere and we see it in ourselves. Whether the decision is big or small, we all make mistakes and we all, for some reason, KEEP making bad decisions. Continue reading “Why Do People Make Bad Decisions – Who is leading You?”
Most of us, at some point in our lives, have gone through hard times. You know, times when it seems as though everything and everyone is against you. You can’t seem to do anything right, you can’t get anything done, bad things and bad luck just haunt you, and frustration is a constant.
During these “ruts” in our lives, it seems we need one of those famous “Dummies” books titled, “How to Trust God in Difficult Times” for Dummies. Actually, it’s a lot easier than even that………… Continue reading “How to Trust in God in Difficult Times – Always look to Him”
At some point in all of our lives we find ourselves needing directions. Maybe it is simple directions to guide us to a geographical location we are trying to find, or maybe it is advice, guidance to get us through a tough situation in life.
Either way because we are all human, at some point we will find ourselves needing the guidance from someone or something we feel confident in their ability to actually help us through our predicament and get us from point A (our current situation) to point B (where we wish to be). The Bible is a guide for us all and will help us in, through, and out of ANY situation. Continue reading “The Bible is a Guide – It is THE Guide”
Quite often, life will throw us curve balls and sucker punches coming out of nowhere. There we are, right in the middle of a situation that is already not the best, and out of nowhere someone or something takes us ten steps backwards placing us in a worse situation than we were before.
Frustrated, in these situations, we ask ourselves why? Why me? What did I do to deserve THIS? For those of us who are already Christians, these are times that can try our faith. If you’re not already a Christian, you find yourself asking why trust in a God who doesn’t seem to be helping? Continue reading “God and Giving Up – Biblical Words of Encouragement”
Turn on the television or radio today and you’ll likely, very quickly, find a controversial topic being protested by either a group of “offended” people or some news reporter in the media. But is it really all that controversial?
Controversial biblical topics seem to be all over the news with people from all walks of life, races and churches giving “their opinion”. For Christians, this is our opportunity to shine and rightfully guide people to the direction ALREADY GIVEN by God himself.
For those seeking direction and not quite a believing Christian just yet, open your mind and heart and keep reading. Continue reading “Controversial Biblical Topics – But Why?”
