Controversial Biblical Topics – But Why?

Turn on the television or radio today and you’ll likely, very quickly, find a controversial topic being protested by either a group of “offended” people or some news reporter in the media. But is it really all that controversial?

Controversial biblical topics seem to be all over the news with people from all walks of life, races and churches giving “their opinion”. For Christians, this is our opportunity to shine and rightfully guide people to the direction ALREADY GIVEN by God himself.

For those seeking direction and not quite a believing Christian just yet, open your mind and heart and keep reading.

God Has Already Spoken

Some controversial biblical topics we see and hear about these days do not need prayer. That’s right, I said it………there are some things out there in the news and radio that we frequently pray about that I’m sure has God just scratching his head and in some cases, probably frustrated.

Example: It’s summertime and the kids are out of school. You leave for work and tell the kids, today I want you to mow the grass, put away the clean dishes, and load the dishwasher with the dirty dishes. About halfway through the day your child calls you and says, “are you sure you want me to mow the grass today?” You respond with, “well yes, that’s what I asked you to do this morning”.

A few hours later you get another call from your child asking, “now, are you sure you want me to put away the clean dishes?” A little frustrated, you again answer, “why would I have already told you to do that if I didn’t want you to do it? Just do as I asked.”

Again, a little while later you get a call and your child is asking, “now, are you really sure you want me to load up the dirty dishes also?” This time you blow your top………….

This is much the same as some of the topics we hear in the media today. Liberals have made controversial topics out of things God has already given us direction on. Further, they have painted a picture of those not going along with their biased opinions as dirty rotten scoundrels bent on racism and hatred.

In reality, racism and hatred is the furthest thing from the truth from those of us who are Christian non-liberals. We can’t help but question the true faith and devotion of those who call themselves “believers”, but then openly support these items being talked about in the media that God has openly condemned.

But What Has God Spoken About?

Let’s go back to our example above about our direction to the kids and mowing and doing the dishes and compare those to topics God has already spoken about.

  • Same Sex Marriage: What has God ALREADY said to us – Matthew 19:4-5, 4 He answered, “Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, 5 and said, ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.

Here, God has already defined for us that marriage is between A MAN and A WOMAN. Period. We don’t need to pray about the topic, God has already spoken.

  • Homosexuality: What has God ALREADY said to us – Leviticus 20:13, “If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable.”

Pretty clear isn’t it. Here (and actually in several other bible passages as well), God has already told us that homosexuality is “detestable”. Period.

  • Abortion – Let’s take this one in two parts. First, in Exodus 20:13, God commands us, “You shall not commit murder”.

Now, lets go one step further. In Exodus 21:22-25, God prescribed a penalty for taking the life of an unborn child; “Exodus 21:22 “If men fight and hit a pregnant woman and her child is born prematurely, but there is no serious injury, he will surely be punished in accordance with what the woman’s husband demands of him, and he will pay what the court decides. 23 But if there is serious injury, you are to take life for life,B)” data-cr=”#cen-NIV-2101B”> 24 eye for eye, tooth for tooth,C)” data-cr=”#cen-NIV-2102C”> hand for hand, foot for foot, 25 burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise.

To go even further, Jeremiah 1:5 proves God has defined us as humans, not just a simple “it” or “fetus”, but a living, breathing human, well before the time period deemed “ok” to have an abortion; Jeremiah 1:5, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, And before you were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you a prophet to the nations.

  • Gender Identity – Here’s one that i still do not for the life of me understand. God made this VERY clear in Matthew 19:5; He answered, “Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female.
  • Taxes – Romans 13:6-7 – For because of this you also pay taxes, for the authorities are ministers of God, attending to this very thing. Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed.

The list goes on and on. The point here being that God has provided moral direction for us as a society on every possible topic you can imagine. We just have to open His book and read.

Don’t Confuse “Morals” with “Opinions”

Every society is build on a set of morals of some kind. America was founded by our forefathers based on a set of morals with direction from the Bible and crafted into our constitution. Think about it for a moment; if society had no morals, killing, rape, pillaging, etc., would be commonplace all over and

everywhere.

Where do we get our basic moral sense to not go out and kill anyone at will, steal anything we wish, etc? The answer………..THE BIBLE. God has determined what is right and what is wrong and he further defines it in the Bible.

Because a legal opinion brought down by the courts such as, the acclaimed Roe vs. Wade abortion decision, was decided, that doesn’t make it morally correct. Often we confuse our opinions with what is simply a basic moral.

What may be “legal”, by not be “moral” in God’s eyes. We have to remember, morals are not determined by anyones opinion, whether that opinion comes from the media, an individual, or a court system. Morals are defined by God in the Bible.

Read BEFORE you Speak

“Fake News”. We hear that a lot these days primarily coming from our president. In a lot of ways I agree with him. The media has turned from reporting agencies to editorial opinions. The problem however is that when a large media organizations blast their personal opinions on the screens of our lives continually and do so with little or no moral backing, people, especially those unfamiliar with the Bible, begin to sway their own personal beliefs in that direction.

The Bible gives great direction on what is right and what is wrong. In fact, the Bible DEFINES what is morally right and morally wrong. The real question is this: Do you as a morally good person want to hear, and heed what has already been defined as right and wrong? Do you want to follow God,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,or not?
