God and Giving Up – Biblical Words of Encouragement

Quite often, life will throw us curve balls and sucker punches coming out of nowhere. There we are, right in the middle of a situation that is already not the best, and out of nowhere someone or something takes us ten steps backwards placing us in a worse situation than we were before.strikeout

Frustrated, in these situations, we ask ourselves why? Why me? What did I do to deserve THIS? For those of us who are already Christians, these are times that can try our faith. If you’re not already a Christian, you find yourself asking why trust in a God who doesn’t seem to be helping?

God and Giving Up

All to often, we are to blame for getting ourselves into these situations. God has provided biblical words of encouragement to help us get ourselves out of some of the messes we’ve put ourselves in to, and to keep pressing forward and trust in him.

God will not tempt you. This is an important point to remember. God may test us, but he will not tempt us. Troubles and trials come into our lives in many forms and methods and it is key for us to understand the difference between a test and a temptation.

The proof of this is in the Bible in James 1:13 where God states, “When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He tempt anyone.”

frustratedTime after time we find ourselves in tough situations, not by the hands of God, but by our own hands after we have given in to a temptation that we knew was wrong from the beginning. God speaks to us and will discourage and lead us away from temptations, but we have to be willing to listen.

No, that doesn’t mean God will pop out in a dream and specifically tell us in a loud bolstering voice “STOP, DON’T DO THAT!!!” But at the moment of temptation, that little voice in our heads that make us second guess the decision on what we’re about to do, or not do, is God’s voice trying to steer us clear.

But what happens after we’ve put ourselves in these situations?

Trust in God…………NOT Your Own Abilities

Sure, you may be good……….you may be confident………….but you are NOT good enough to get yourself out of every mess of life you WILL, at some point, get yourself into. Guaranteed. You will, without a doubt, need help at some point, to get through a problem or situation you’ve gotten yourself in to.

Who will you trust in these situations? Who better to trust than the very person who created everything? Unfortunately, our first reaction in times of trouble is to reach out to a friend, an attorney, a family member, or even worse, just handle things ourselves…………Trust in God

In Proverbs 3:5-8, God says, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the LORD and turn away from evil. Then you will have healing for your body and strength for your bones”.

Maybe in the end you will actually need that friend, that attorney, or that family member for help, or maybe you don’t need anyone and you can work it out yourself. However, if you FIRST turn to God and trust in Him, seek his advice FIRST, he may send you to the correct friend, the right attorney, a family member who can actually help, or He may give you the answer to work it all out yourself.

Remain Steadfast – Fight the Good Fight

determinationIn James 1:12, God says, “Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him”.

When you’re in those troubling trialing situations, it’s easy to just give up and walk away………..too easy. Think about this for a minute. What if God Himself has placed you in that situation as a test? While God will not tempt you, He WILL test your faith.

For Christians, or those who “say” they are Christians, who do you turn to first in a bad situation? Do you try to work things out yourself before saying even a single prayer to yourself? What if God is testing you to see if you’ll come to Him for the answer to your issue that He already has!!! You just need to ask for direction.

In 1st Thessalonians 5:17, God says, “Never stop praying”. Think for a minute if you had the right answer to every problem, big and small, every day, throughout the day, every day of your life? What would that be like? Awesome right? Actually you do, He’s just waiting for you to ask.

Never Give Up!!!

Christian author and speaker Joyce Meyer wrote a book titled, “Never Give Up!: Relentless Determination to Overcome Lifes Challenges”. After perseveranceovercoming a whole host of lifes challenges herself, Joyce Meyer has prevailed as one of the most popular authors and speakers in the world. She endured an abused childhood, a bad marriage and very limited opportunities in her to get where she is today.

Reading through Joyce’s story, and where she is today, you have to wonder; were all those trials and problems she endured simply a test of faith handed to her by God Himself simply to allow her the opportunity for the success she now realizes? Think about that for a moment. Joyce Meyer, at several points in her life, had the choice to give up, or “remain steadfast under trial”. She chose God’s direction, and she remained steadfast. It looks like it’s worked out well for her.

fight the good fightConclusion

Combine the story of Joyce with the direction already there for us through God’s own words in the bible, with prayer FIRST, and no doubt the encouragement and direction you need is right at your fingertips.

In 2nd Timothy 4:7, at the end of his ministry, Paul writes, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith”.

Seek God’s direction FIRST in ALL situations, fight the good fight, never, ever, give up, and know that God is right there, waiting for you to call on Him.
